July 4th Parade, Celebration and Picnic
This event is generally held the morning of the 4th of July and was first held in 1994 and has continued every year since. The parade begins at the Lincoln Elementary School and concludes with a community celebration and potluck picnic on the grounds of the Goose Creek Friends Meeting. The overall celebration is the biggest yearly event sponsored by LCL.
Established as a family event, the parade is a slower paced, traditional and personalized event comprised mostly of pedestrian groups and individuals. We encourage pushed or pulled vehicles such as wagons or wheel barrels. Equestrian riders and pets are encouraged as long as under control. Most
motorized vehicles are discouraged, but antique vehicles, smaller farm vehicles and garden tractors are welcome if properly muffled. No regular cars, trucks, motorcycles or other loud vehicles are permitted.
Parade participants must register prior to the start of the parade which begins at the Lincoln Elementary School’s parking lot. The parade route follows Lincoln Road south, with participants stopping before the judges stand for performances/evaluations before continuing to the junction of Lincoln, Sands and Foundry Roads where the participants disperse onto the Goose Creek Friends Meeting House lawn. Contests for best costume, best decorated home, and best dessert are held as well as patriotic songs and a potluck lunch.

Residents of Lincoln gathered July 4th to celebrate the birth of our country and enjoy our hometown festivities. Red, white and blue were prominent among the estimated crowd of 150.
The annual parade included the Boy Scouts, many children, pets and others. The program included a reading of the Declaration of Independence – thank you Sarah Brown! Dan Smith as MC of the event kept the program on schedule and had the honors of announcing the winners of the dessert contest. The dessert judges had a tough job this year with many delicious treats – some judges had to try two samples of each to help make their decisions!
The extremely hot temperatures did not deter the great American spirit in Lincoln on July 4th. Thank you Jean Brown for organizing this event and Acoustic Burgoo for the fantastic music!

Sunday evening, September 9, approximately 150 Linconites enjoyed friendships, fun and beautiful weather on the lawn of The Goose Creek Society of Friends Meeting House lawn. Many new and not-so-new residents and friends shared a great selection of desserts: watermelon slices, cookies, brownies,
cupcakes, pies and even some of Carolyn Taylor’s scrumptious cake. Ice cream lovers got a chance to taste a variety of flavors-including two which were homemade (Ellie’s special‘Cantaloupe’ and Scott’s ‘caramel’.) Some early arrivers even got a chance to ‘help’ crank the old fashioned White Mountain ice cream churn.
A special thanks to this year’s event chairs Lillian Rohrer and Kristen O’Rourke and their families for making the social a really special occasion for all who attended.

Approximately 45 men, women and children enjoyed Lincoln’s annual caroling and bonfire on Friday, Dec. 21. Despite chilly and very windy weather, this year’s song leaders, Andrew McKnight and Jean Brown, lead the enthusiastic singers up one side of Lincoln Road and down the other, stopping to sing at each home with a light on. Upon returning to the Goose Creek Friends’ parking lot, Andrew circled the group around the bonfire for one last song: Silent Night. Then, all enjoyed the hot chocolate, cider and numerous cookies-even some toasted marshmallows-as we visited with one another, keeping warm by the fire. Thanks to Pete and Ard for providing ‘truck escort’ for our carolers; Tim and Ellie for tending to the fire; and to Jean Dawson and all who provided refreshments.
